Superintendent - Dr. Mona R. Briggs

Dr. Mona R. Briggs is a career educator, having invested the past 35 years in educational reform as a teacher, principal, evaluation specialist, district administrator, university instructor, school improvement coach for the Middle Start school reform model, educational consultant, and currently as the superintendent of Academics Plus Charter School. In these roles, she has developed expertise in curriculum, instruction, assessment, and restructuring of educational programming that is academically excellent, developmentally appropriate and equitable for diverse learners.

Dr. Briggs serves on the Southwest Educational Development Lab's Southern Regional Advisory Council for After School Programs/Training. In addition, she serves as the Director of Public Relations on the Board for the Arkansas Association of Middle Level Education. She is a member of the founding team for the Arkansas Forum to Accelerate Middle Grades Reform, and is co-director for the Arkansas Diamond Schools to Watch initiative. As a trainer for the Fred Jones Tools for Teaching Classroom Management System, she has the opportunity to work with school districts in many parts of the country.

She graduated Henderson State University with a BSE in English and a MSE in Guidance Counseling. She earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership from UALR. She is a member of the Arkansas Association of Educational Administrators, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development Associates Program, National Middle School Association, Arkansas Association of Middle Level Education, and the Arkansas Forum to Accelerate Middle Grades Reform.

Dr. Briggs is married to Ron Briggs, a coach and teacher with the Little Rock School district and has two children and two grandchildren.
