A letter from Mr. McGill
Dear Parents, Students, Faculty and Staff,
The state has developed a system to give an A-F grade to all public schools in Arkansas. Academics Plus Charter Schools performed well in the new state A-F rating system. The new rating system is based on indicators/data taken during the 2016-2017 school year.
Scott Charter School (SCS) earned a “C” rating from the state’s A-F rating system. Even though we want to score higher this is not a bad rating at all with all things considered. The information for the ratings was obtained during the first year SCS was in operation. The students had a wide variety of experiences from the schools they had previously attended. There was a lot of time spent from the entirely new faculty and staff getting to know the needs of all 150 new students. The faculty and staff have implemented several initiatives at SCS to address the needs of the students. These initiatives include the after school program and paraprofessional assistance the students receive during the school day. Both of these programs provide a service aimed at increasing reading and math proficiency. This summer the K-2 teachers will receive staff development in the Reading Initiative for Student Excellence (RISE). This program is encouraged by the Arkansas Department of Education and the training will be provided by the Arch Ford Education Services Cooperative. There are many great things happening at SCS and the students are expected to continue improve in their learning. We are proud of the work the students, faculty and staff have done during the past two years to make SCS a quality school.

Continuous Learning: SCS will utilize assessment results to make decisions that improve student learning and teaching practice.
Responsive Classrooms: This is an approach that will incorporate students’ social and emotional growth into their academic growth. Students within SCS responsive classrooms will be challenged, stimulated, safe, and respectful.
Integration of Agricultural Science: To extend the rigorous college preparatory program, students will be exposed to agricultural science through project-based learning, experiential learning within the community, and hands-on opportunities to use resources surrounding the school community. Students will have a skill set in agricultural science and technology through real world projects that require critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Extended Instructional Time: SCS will provide more time on task with an extended day and school year. This means 183 instructional days at 6.5 hours each day, which equates to over 124 more hours of instruction each year than students in traditional schools.
After School Program: In addition to more instructional time, an after school program will be available for our students, with drop off as early as 7:00 a.m. and pick up as late as (but no later than) 6:00 p.m.
