The objective of the science club is to expose students to all aspects of the scientific community. Students that get to participate will walk away with an experience they will remember for a lifetime. It all starts with an application and a screening process which selects up 30 students. Applications require parent/guardian signature because the science club requires a significant amount of time devoted to the club and parents need to be aware of the time commitment as well as be on board to support their student. After the screening process and the students are chosen, based on their interest in science, weekly meetings begin where attendance is taken. Only active members get to participate in club activities such as field trips. Inactivity is defined as 3 consecutive missed meetings or events without valid excuses. Valid excuses are determined by the sponsor. Semester dues of $10 per student are paid before students get to participate in field trips. The science club field trips and fun events are rewards for being active in the science club and putting in time to help out with school campus preservation.
The Student Government Association provides social activities, community service and a voice for the student body at Academics Plus Charter School. The SGA consists of four officers, President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer, as well as class representatives from each high school class. Some of the social activities the SGA has planned for 2007-2008, are a homecoming dance, Sadie Hawkins dance, prom, a talent show, along with numerous fundraisers and community service projects.
