Community Service Learning

Pursuant to Act 237 of 2023, AR LEARNS, beginning with the graduating class of 2027 (freshman year was '23-'24), students are required to complete a minimum of seventy-five (75) clock hours of documented community service prior to graduation

Students in the graduating class of 2026 can earn a community service learning credit once they earn 75 community service hours.

9th-12th grade students must earn 75 hours as part of the state graduation requirement. Students are encouraged to complete their hours prior to senior year.

8th graders must earn 25 hours by the end of ther academic year. Students can earn more than 25 hours in 8th grade, but those hours do NOT transfer to 9-12 grade CSL requirements. The 25 hours are mandatory and must be completed prior to recieiving a passing grade in English/Language Arts for the spring semester. Hours may be accumulated over the summer for the upcoming school year.

Why

Community Service Learning helps students connect what their learning in school to the larger community. Students learn how to support their community while also learning about themselves.

Students have to volunteer at an ADE or APCSI approved site. Click the picture on the right to see the list.

Students can find current opportunities in MaiaLearning by clicking "Events" in the left taskbar. They should should check it regularly. Students also can review this list with annual/year-round opportunities.

Students need to turn in the hours by May 5 each year, or the following Monday if May 5th falls on the weekend.

Students who do not complete their 25 hours, will receive an incomplete in their English/Language Arts class until they turn in the remaining hours.

Students can earn hours for the next school year starting at dismissal on the last day of school.

If students are unable to obtain an email from their site supervisor, they can have the site supervisor sign the CSL Site Supervisor Signature Form. Students must show the form to their second period teacher and document the hours in MaiaLearning for credit.
