Second-grade students began Experimentals Enrichment by testing how many pencils could puncture a water-filled plastic bag. When a hole is made, some polymer molecules separate, but others hold the bag intact, preventing water from escaping since water droplets are too large to pass through the gaps between the pencils. This experiment sparked curiosity about the effects of using larger bags, thicker pencils, or varying the force applied when inserting the pencils.
